About the Liberty Community Chorus

The Chorus is open to all singers 16 years of age and older and currently consists of 50 – 60 non auditioned volunteer singers from throughout the Kansas City area. These members commit from 2 to 5 hours of their time per week to rehearse and prepare for each concert.

In 2006, the Liberty Community Chorus was designated a 501(c) (3) tax-exempt, charitable organization by the Internal Revenue Service. The activities of the Chorus are funded through member dues, ticket sales and the generous support of our donors and patrons. Scholarship assistance is available for qualified, financially challenged singers. Administrative and operational functions are governed by Chorus Bylaws and overseen by an 11 member Board of Directors that serves on a volunteer basis.

The Chorus is under the direction of Bryan Taylor who has a Music Education degree from William Jewell College and a Master’s in Choral Conducting from the UMKC Conservatory of Music. He has sung with the Kansas City Chorale since 1992. In addition he has performed numerous times with the Robert Shaw Chorale Workshop held at Carnegie Hall. Taylor taught choral music at Kearney High School for 15 years and currently is the Director of Music at Liberty United Methodist Church. In 2007, following several years as Music, Repertoire & Standards Chair for the Missouri Choral Directors Association, he assumed the same position for the Southwest Division of the American Choral Directors Association.
