Singer Spotlight

Becky Lindenmuth

1. When did you join the LCC?

I joined the LCC in the Fall semester of 2017.

2. Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Columbia, MO. I went to college and started my teaching career there as well. I moved to Kansas City in July of 2014.

3. Tell us about your family – are you married, single, any children?

My husband and I live in downtown Kansas City. We got married in June 2018. We have a furbaby named Penny. She is a 4-year old vizsla.

4. What is (or was) your professional career?

I am currently a third grade teacher in Liberty Public Schools. This is my 9th year teaching. I taught for 2 years in Columbia before moving to Kansas City in 2014 while completing my Masters Degree at Mizzou. Last summer, I also completed my Educational Specialist degree in Mathematics Education. This year I am going to venture into virtual teaching through LPS. It should be a very interesting year.

5. Tell us about your choral experiences. What choirs have you sang with? Are you currently

singing with other choirs?

I have been singing since I was about 8, starting in church choir at First Baptist Church in Columbia. I sang there all the way through college as a scholarship singer. I started doing musical theater on top of choir in middle school. In high school, I sang in the choir, did musical theater, and was in show choir. I sang with University Singers during my time at Mizzou. I didn’t have a choral outlet for several years after college until I joined the LCC. It’s so nice to be back!

6. Do you play any instruments?

I have been learning to play the ukulele for the last couple of years! I also played clarinet in middle school for a bit before switching to just choral music. Lastly, I played handbells for my church in Columbia as a kid all the way through high school. I was also part of the Columbia Handbell Ensemble when I was 15.

7. Besides choral music, what other styles of music do you enjoy?

I like a little bit of everything. My favorite would probably be folky/singer/songwriter-type.

8. What has been your favorite or most memorable LCC concert or song?

My first concert was the Songs of the Cinema, which was really fun! I think my favorite song we have done since then is Stars with the singing bowls.

9. What are your hobbies or interests other than singing?

My husband and I love to travel! We really love traveling to National Parks when we travel in the states and usually go somewhere with great wine when we travel internationally (Portugal, Argentina, etc.) I also love to bake and do various crafty things. Lately, I have been doing a lot of lettering and cross stitching.

10. What is your favorite food or dessert?

I really love pizza and thai food! As for dessert, ice cream is my favorite!
